Dear Ms. Von Uhl,

Good morning Ms. Von Uhl, in this letter I am going to write about myself and my goals, seeing as though we are going to be working together. Ever since childhood I have loved inventing things. My friends were never bored around me due to my toys that were self created. Even as a child I did not have a problem with creating my own toys because my parents never bought me any. This love for inventing continued throughout high school. I practically spent the entire four years in the robotics room. Being the captain also helped me tremendously with my collaboration skills. Naturally, given this passion of mine, I gravitated towards mechanical engineering as my choice of major. The satisfaction when fixing a problem others thought could not be fixed, made this talent very worth it.

One long term goal of mine is to establish a strong mindset and mental health. These two things are crucial for me to cultivate in order to accomplish my college and career goals. Even today I enjoy doing things that make me uncomfortable such as exercising. This is all in an effort to strengthen my mental fortitude. My father has always reminded me of the importance of mental health and his advice will not be wasted.

My next goal would be to finish getting my degree and become a mechanical engineer. I feel that this degree strongly aligns with my interests and I would enjoy doing it. Math is something that was always pleasant for me as well. I am definitely looking forward to the next five years of this degree. The skills learned, not only make this degree worth it, but the fortitude grown makes this worth every cent. The field of engineering is one with problem solvers. These people are going to make the world a more efficient place. Engineers are the future of safety, health, and almost every other problem humanity is struggling with. The reason I chose mechanical engineering specifically is because I feel that the field of Robotics is going to be a huge market place in the future. I believe that Robotics is going to be very relevant and is an industry that not only will solve a tremendous part of the world’s problems, but will make everyone’s life easier. Not to mention that I greatly enjoy working with machines and find them fascinating. Physics and math give humanity power over their surroundings. Through the language of math, we can engineer things that will do what we want them to exactly the way they should. This is why I also greatly enjoy math and physics and I’m looking forward to them in my college career.

As for my career, I have hopes of either receiving a comfortable salary or succeeding in starting my own business. This potential business will undoubtedly depend on the quality of the new product and the collaboration of myself with other engineers. To invent a product that will successfully make the company profitable, it must satisfy an intrinsic need that people share. The field of engineering will play a large part in making sure that this product is affordable and functions properly. My team will need to run several tests and of course calculations to clarify this. All of this will be put into fruition to accomplish a wonderful dream that I have to create a profitable company and give jobs to many people. The next possible step would be to focus on sales. These sales numbers must be high for the company to survive therefore, I will need to hire a sales staff. If I do not want to hire a sales team, I could also present my new product to existing companies to possibly make a deal of sorts. If I create a product that makes their product better, they would be willing to pay a reasonable amount of money for the patent. If I were able to accomplish this sale, I would be very satisfied with what my degree has allowed me to do.

Sincerely,

William Gomezcoello
